Taylor Lautner is fast becoming a go-to young Hollywood actor for demanding action roles. He’s about to start filming “Abduction,” a Jason Bourne-style thriller, and has lined up two action-heavy flicks — “Stretch Armstrong” and “Cancun” — further down the line. Plus he signed up for, then parted ways with, “Max Steel,” a superhero movie in which he would have played a kid imbued with the power of nanobots.

The 18-year-old, in short, digs action. It’s no surprise, then, that when it comes to picking his favorite film in the “Twilight” series, he’s going with the upcoming “Eclipse” — the one that ratchets up the action in a way Twilighters have not yet seen.

“It was my favorite book, so I was always looking forward to the day that I got to film it,” Lautner told MTV News of “Eclipse,” due in theaters June 30. “The final product turned out even better than I expected.”

Credit goes to director David Slade, the man behind the horror flick “30 Days of Night” and someone with both a distinct visual style and a talent for capturing run-and-gun action sequences.

“It’s my favorite, because it’s the most guy-friendly by far,” Lautner explained of “Eclipse.” “It’s dangerous. There’s a lot of action. The romance is still there, but the action level is stepped up way more. It’s great.”

Less than great, however, is watching himself up on the big screen without a shirt on. Because “shirtless” is pretty much Lautner’s default state during the film. Fans might love those scenes, but the actor says they’re both uncomfortable to shoot and to watch.

“It is a little awkward for me to watch myself and, actually, when we’re filming those scenes,” he said.

Taylor Lautner shirtless in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse helps to advance the film’s plot in a number of ways: a) you can see why Kristen Stewart’s Bella may wonder if a werewolf might be more enticing than a vampire b) it shows that Lautner’s Jacob represents earthiness and sexual desire while Robert Pattinson’s thin, white-faced Edward represent etherealness and spiritual love c) it shows that Jacob may be young but he’s a man. In other words, you can lust after him without feeling guilty.

Lautner was the recent favorite movie actor winner at the Kids’ Choice Awards held in Los Angeles last weekend. He also shared with Kristen Stewart the best on-screen couple award.

Just as long as you purchase The Twilight Saga: New Moon Ultimate Fan Edition DVD or Blu-Ray at Wal-Mart beginning on March 20th, the new footage is yours to keep!

The DVD also includes behind-the-scenes footage of Eclipse alongside interviews with R-Patz, K-Stew and Tay-Tay.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse director David Slade has been sporadically updating his post-production progress on the rapidly approaching film via Twitter.
His latest updates revolve around the editing process in which he is “cutting like crazy.” Just prior to that he confirmed a first director’s cut was completed and screened to the studio for the first time.

Echoing the approach Chris Weitz took on New Moon, Slade also tweeted that he is adding more Edward Cullen aka Robert Pattinson. The girls love the guy so the more of him in the film will lead to more cash in Summit’s coffers.

We are now less than 6 months away from Eclipse’s release and not a second of footage has been released. In fact, only one official image is available along with a handful of on-location spy snaps.

So when is the trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse going to be released?

The first instinct is to predict it appearing in front of Valentine’s Day this weekend which includes a small role for Taylor Lautner. But that is a Warner Bros. film and Summit has shown with the first two Twilight films that they prefer trailer debuts in front of their own.

That leaves the limited release Roman Polanski thriller The Ghost Writer on February 19 which veers about as far from Twilight’s fan base as possible. I put the odds at zero for that happening.

The more probable date for the first Eclipse trailer debut is on March 12 in front of Summit’s Remember Me. That film happens to star Robert Pattinson (along with Lost’s Emilie de Ravin) which next to Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner is as perfect a tie-in as possible.

Fans are anxious to get a peek at the first trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and director David Slade would be only too happy to offer it up … except it’s not in his control. The latest update on the Eclipse trailer came today via Slade’s twitter page:

So just to clear this up, the Trailer is out of my hands, I would love to release one but its down to Summit. I don’t know when.

We can only guess that Slade’s comment relates to these previous two tweets:

December 30, 2009: Planning New Year’s gift…. January 13, 2010: New Year’s gift was canceled. Out of my hands unfortunately. I tried. On another note our edit is driving towards the finish line.

This trailer better be damn good!

I’d so like to get my hands on this, who wouldn’t?

An early version of the “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” screenplay that belonged to star Jackson Rathbone leaked online on Tuesday. Sources reportedly confirmed to both Deadline Hollywood and EW.com that the PDF file making the rounds on the Internet is real, but it was not the version used to film the third movie in the vampire saga.

Summit has not provided any further information about the leak, how the script was lost in the first place or how anyone got their hands on the script, which is watermarked with Rathbone’s name across each page. A rep for Rathbone hadn’t gotten back to MTV News at press time regarding any further information about the found script.

According to the first page, posted on Zap2It.com’s Dish Rag blog, this version of the script has the movie opening with Victoria (Bryce Dallas Howard) turning Riley (Xavier Samuel) into a member of the vampire army she’s raising in order to go after Bella (Kristen Stewart). “Eclipse” wrapped up shooting back in October and is currently in post-production before its June release.

This isn’t the first time a copy of a “Twilight” script has been lost and then recovered. Last May, beauty-salon owner Casey Ray found a script for “New Moon” in the trash outside a hotel in St. Louis. Rather than profit from her discovery, Ray later returned it to the studio.

It was believed that “Twilight” star Anna Kendrick was the one who lost the script, since she was in St. Louis shooting “Up in the Air” and staying at the hotel where it was found. A rep for the actress said Kendrick would never leave scripts lying around for anyone to find.
